Note:
Turn the printer off, unplug it, and allow it to sit for 30 minutes
before performing these maintenance procedures. CAUTION: The fusing assembly may be hot. Turn power off and disconnect printer from main power. Allow to sit for 20 to 30 minutes before performing these maintenance procedures. NOTE: Maintenance kit component installation on the 5P and 6P printer requires removal of all covers, the formatter and shield and engine control board. Removal procedures for these components will be covered in the following steps. I/O Cover Removal 5P – Locate the two release tabs on left rear corner of printer. Press tabs in and swing rear of door out and forward. The door will now lift away. 6P – Locate the finger slot on left rear corner of printer. Swing door out and away. Left Side Cover Removal 1. Open toner access door on top cover 2. Locate release tab at the front left corner of toner access opening 3. Press tab and slide over forward 4. Pull cover straight away from printer Top Cover Removal 1. Remove toner cartridge and paper cassette 2. Remove the four screws located under toner access door 3. At rear of the printer, lower the face up output tray NOTE: There are four tabs on top cover located at lower four corners, front and rear, that engage with slots on printer frame. These tabs may require considerable twisting and flexing of top cover to release 4. At rear of printer grasp lower right rear corner of the cover. Pull cover out away from the frame and lift up. 5. Repeat the process on lower left rear corner 6. Do same at the left and right front corners. 7. When all four corners are lifted slightly top cover can be lifted straight up and off printer frame Formatter Board and Shield Removal 1. Remove any installed SIMMs 2. Remove 7 screws holding shield and formatter board to printer 3. Pull formatter straight out from printer. There will be some resistance as the interconnect unseats from the engine controller Engine Control Board Removal 1. Remove fusing assembly a. Remove black plastic fuser cover by pressing release tab on right side of cover. Slide cover to the right. Pull left side out and to left. Remove from printer b. Remove the 4 screws ( 2 machine and 2 self tapping) located at bottom of fusing assembly c. Grasp green plastic handle and pull out from printer 2. Remove formatter and shield 3. On left side remove two screws that attach grounding strap 4. On right side by the power switch remove machine screw holding grounding spring in place 5. Disconnect the two cables to tray 1 assembly 6. Gently place printer upside-down before proceeding 7. Remove the six screws holding engine board in place 8. Lift board straight up and away from printer Transfer Roller Removal and Replacement 1. Open toner access door and remove toner cartridge 2. Lift left side of roller up 3. Slide roller to left until disengaged from right side bushing 4. Remove from printer 5. Release guide from roller and install on new roller 6. To re-install insert right end first, make sure tabs on the guide are seated firmly and push roller into place Fusing Assembly Removal and Replacement 1. Remove printer covers 2. Refer to step 1- ‘Remove fusing assembly’ under engine board removal section 3. Reinstall in reverse order Tray 1 P/U Roller and Separation Pad Removal and Replacement 1. Remove printer covers 2. Release locking tab on right side of tray 1 p/u roller 3. Slide roller off shaft 4. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry separation pad out of holder 5. Install new pad with silver strip to front 6. While holding left side of p/u roller shaft, slide new roller on until tab locks into place Tray 2 P/U Roller Removal and Replacement 1. Remove printer covers, formatter and shield, fusing assembly and engine control board 2. Release locking tab on roller and slide off shaft 3. While holding opposing side of p/u roller shaft in place, slide new roller on until tab locks. NOTE: If p/u roller is removed without removing engine board, p/u roller shaft and clutch will fall out of the support bushings when new roller is pressed onto the shaft. When the p/u roller is locked onto shaft it limits side to side movement and holds bushings in place. NOTE: There are three free floating sensor flags on these printers. The tray 1 input sensor flag, the tray 2 input sensor flag and the registration sensor flag. When disassembling the printer these flags can fall out of their holders and become lost. Exercise caution so as not to lose the flags. Make sure all flags are seated in the appropriate holder during reassembly. |
