LEXMARK OPTRA S MAINTENANCE KIT
INSTRUCTIONS

The following parts are included in this maintenance kit:

• 1 Optra S Series Fuser
• 1 Transfer Roller
• 1 Charge Roller
• 3 Pick-Up Rollers

Please Note: Turn the printer off, unplug it, and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before
performing these maintenance procedures.

Fuser Installation:

1. Remove the top cover and any output options.

2. If a duplex unit is installed, remove the printer from it by using the handholds. This may require two people.

3. Remove the fuser cover. (If you have a label printer, lift up and remove the fuser cleaner).

4. Open the rear access door slightly and pull up at a slight angle to remove.

5. Loosen the two screws on the drive unit and remove the redrive unit by pulling outward by the tabs.

6. Loosen the two screws on the fuser assembly and pull the fuser from the printer; to do so, pull the fuser by the metal tab.

7. Install the new fuser in reverse fashion.

Transfer Roller Replacement:

1. Turn the printer around so the front is facing you; open the front doors and remove the print cartridge.

2. Using the transfer roller removal tool, pry up on the roller using the frame as a pivot point. Discard the old roller.

***CAUTION***
Do not touch the new transfer roller with your bare hands; oils from skin on the roller can cause print quality defects.

3. Leave the protective wrapper on the transfer roller and insert the right end into the bearing on the right side. Then snap the left end of the roller into position.

4. Remove the protective wrapper from the roller and discard.

Charge Roller Replacement:

1. Fit the hole of the positioning tool over the printer door latch; pull the top door down and secure the hooked end of the positioning tool to the printer.

2. Locate the charge roller toward the rear of the opening, grasp it with your left hand and
push the right mounting bracket away until the roller drops out.

***CAUTION***
Do not touch the new change roller with your bare hands; oils from skin on the roller can cause print quality defects.

3. Leave the protective wrapper on the charge roller and insert it into the mounting brackets; push on both mounting brackets to ensure the roller is properly installed.

4. Remove the protective wrapper from the roller and discard. Remove the positioning tool and discard as well.

5. Insert the print cartridge and close the front access doors. Plug in the printer power cord and turn the printer power on.
