  Models: 1100 | 1100a | 1100xi | 1100 ase | 1100 axi

NOTE: These instructions are simply a guide. First Choice assumes no responsibility or liability for any damages caused by user while working on there printer during this repair.

Tools Required

• #2 Phillips Screwdriver
• Pliers
• Needle Nose Pliers
Small Flatblade Screwdriver
• #2 Bit

Step 1
Remove all Cables and the (2) Paper Guides from your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer. Unplug (Power Cord & Computer Cables), Remove Toner Cartridge. Work in a well lit area with plenty of work space.
Step 2
While facing the rear of your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer, Remove the (3) Three Screws as indicated in picture.

NOTE: Remove any Optional Memory at this time in order to remove the Rear Cover. The Memory chips obstruct this repair, so they need to be removed to be out of the way.
Step 3
While facing the front of your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer, with the Toner Cartridge removed, Identify and Remove the Pick-Up Roller Assembly. You will need to remove the Left & Right Screws, then slide the Pick-Up Roller Assembly off to the Right, try to hold the whole Assembly as you slide it out, this will make it easier.

NOTE: Pull Outward and to the Right to remove.
Step 4
Flip your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer Upside Down and remove the Left & Right Pod Feet. The Pod Feet need to be removed in order to remove the Exterior Shell. This can be accomplished with a pair of Needle Nose Pliers opened up to release the (2) clips on each Pod Foot. (hp) does make a Jig for this procedure but we have found that a pair of Needle Nose Pliers will work just fine for this procedure remember each Pod Foot is different and will need to go back in its original position.
Step 5
Flip your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer back to the Upright Position with the rear of the Printer facing you. Now you must remove the Rear Cover. This will allow access to the Seperation Pad. The Shell will split from the front part and will hinge back and upwards. You may have to negotiate the Paper Guides a little for the Rear Shell to come off properly this is normal.
Step 6
At this time you will need to remove the plastic Paper Guide. The Paper Guide will lift straight upwards out of its place, remember our goal here is to get access to the Separation Pad.

NOTE:
Be Careful not to damage the Paper Guide
Step 7
Now you must remove the Kick Plate by removing the single Screw that locks to the Kick Plate Shaft, we find using a Small #2 Bit with a pair of Pliers works fine for removal of this Screw, we have to remove the Kick Plate in order to get to the Separation Pad.

Step 8
WARNING: USE EXTREME CARE DURING THIS STEP!!!
At this time, Carefully, and I mean Carefully, pry the Kick Plate Shaft out of its Socket using a Flat Blade Screw Driver and twisting at an angle. The shaft will slide out of its Socket. You must remove the Shaft out of the Plastic Holder in order to remove the Kick Plate from its Shaft. We have to get the Shaft out of the Socket in order to free up room to replace the Separation Pad.

NOTE: Don't over apply pressure when removing the Kick Plate Shaft.
Step 9
Once the Kick Plate Shaft has been removed, slide the Kick Plate to the Left and off the shaft. This will require you to bend the Plastic Lock Plate Upwards. The Kick Plate has a Spring on the backside which you must bend a little during removal. This is OK. As you bend the Kick Plate Lock upwards slide the whole Plastic Kick Plate off the Shaft to the Left.

Step 10
Now you need to remove the Separation Pad. To do this, Identifying and Removing the White Seperation Pad Holding Clip and then remove the Seperation Pad. The Separation Pad will have a Spring on the back of it. Don't loose it you will need to put it on your Separation Pad. The Separation Pad is the cause of Multi-Page Pulling Problems and Paper Jams!!!

NOTE:
The Separation Pad has hinges and will need to be lifted upwards and back to be removed.

Step 11
Remove the Spring from the old Seperation Pad and Install it on the Separation Pad. There will be a Small Nipple on the back of the Separation Pad where the spring fits on. Now Reinstall the Separation Pad and make sure the Separation Pad is locked in place correctly. You will know this by the way the Separation Pad hinges nicely with a small amount of spring action. Now Reinstall the White Separation Pad Holding Clip, when Installing your White Clip keep the hook downwards it needs to support the Separation Pad you can see this a little better in Step 12 picture.

NOTE: Make sure the Separation Pad is correctly seated in it's Socket, press your finger on the pad it should have a nice spring effect.
Step 12
Reinstall the Kick Plate at this time. The Kick Plate will require a little negotiating because of the Kick Plate Spring that must go between the Separation Pad and the Kick Plate. Reinstall the Kick Plate, slide it all the way to the Right and make sure it locks in place. The metal from the Shaft should protrude a little from the Left Side of the plastic Kick Plate this is good.

NOTE: Notice how the Kick Plate Spring is between the Separation Pad.
Step 13
WARNING: USE EXTREME CARE DURING THIS STEP
Now Reinstall the Kick Plate Shaft. You will have to apply a small amount of Reverse Pressure to lock the Kick Plate Shaft back in its socket. Be gentle, it will go in. Don’t force the Shaft, make sure that the Right side of the metal Shaft is in its Socket all the way otherwise you will never have enough room to lock the Left side of the Shaft back in its Socket, once the Kick Plate Shaft is back in its Socket then Reinstall the Kick Plate Screw.
Step 14
Install your Pick-Up Roller at this time. The Pick-Up Roller can be removed with a Small Flat Blade Screw Driver. The Pick-Up Roller will hinge out of its Socket. We have included a breakdown photo of the Pick-Up Roller in case your parts get mixed up, the Left and Right Brackets are the same and the 2 Idler Wheels.
Step 15
While facing the front of your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer, Install your Pick-Up Roller Assembly. Do this by Identifying the Shaft on the Left side of the Pick-Up Roller and lining it up with the Shaft in your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer. Note the Round or Half Moon on the Pick-Up Roller should be facing you, not the backside of the Pick-Up Roller. This will help with alignment, also the Spline on the Roller Shaft has to match the Spline on the Printer Shaft, one side of the Roller Shaft has a slight indifference.
Step 16
When the Pick-Up Roller is in, look in the back of your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer and you should see the (2) Plastic Pins of the Feedroller brackets protruding from the metal, this is good. Now Install the (2) Screws for the Pick-Up Roller. Make sure not to damage or obstruct the Feed Sensor under the White Left Feedroller Bracket. you can see this Sensor better in the Step 15 picture. You can take a Flat Blade Screw Driver and toggle it to make sure it swings freely.
Step 17
Now Reinstall your Paper Guide. Make sure to not damage the Black Film that guides the paper. As you Install the Paper Guide, simply look down and watch the Black Film making sure it does not hang up on anything. If this is not correct, then this is a sure way to get a Paper Jam when finished. The Paper Guide will snap into place when pushed down all the way it can only go in one way so dont force it.
Step 18
Install the Rear Cover. Do this by aligning the top (2) Hinge Arms into place and slowly lower the Shell. While doing this you may have to bend the Paper Guides to work the Rear Cover back to its normal position this may take a little negotiating to accomplish, take your time.
Step 19
Once the Rear Cover is back to a lowered position you must clip the Front cover to the Back Cover. Make sure that there is a good seam between the front and Rear Covers you can see the seem in Step 20 picture. Now you can Reinstall the (3) Screws on the Back Cover.
Step 20
Flip yout (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer Upside Down and Reinstall the Left & Right Pod Feet. There is a Left & Right Foot. They will need to go in their correct location.

Step 21
You’re all done; now is the time to Reinstall your Optional Memory if you have not done so, and run a Test Copy.

Plug your (hp) LaserJet 1100 Printer in and let it cycle before adding paper.
