HP 5L, 6L, 3100 Maintenance Kit Instructions

The following parts are included in this maintenance kit:

• 1 Transfer Roller RF5-1534
• 1 - P/U Roller RG5-3486
• 1 - Separation Pad Kit RY7-5077
• 1 - Fusing Assembly RG5-3459

OR

• 1 Fusing Assembly RM1-0101 (HP 4300)


CAUTION: Turn the printer off, unplug it, and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before
performing these maintenance procedures.


Note: The 5L, 6l, and 3100 have the same kit replacement procedures except that the 3100 printer must have external covers and formatter removed an addition to the following.

Transfer Roller Removal and Replacement


1. Open toner access door and tray 1

2. Remove toner cartridge

3. With small flathead screwdriver, unlock retaining tab located in each right and left roller bushings

4. Lift roller up and put of printer

CAUTION: Do not touch the surface of the transfer roller. Contact with skin oils can cause print quality problems

Pickup Roller and Separation Pad(s) Removal and Replacement

1. Remove above (all) covers

2. Remove paper input guide

3. From left side of printer remove pickup clutch from pickup shaft (adjacent to solenoid)

4. From right side of printer remove ground spring and retaining bushing from pick up shaft

5. Unlock two black arms on either side of pick up roller and remove assembly, right side first

6. Remove metal kick plate

CAUTION: The spring underneath kick plate may stay attached to kick plate but is also likely to spring away
  a) Press center pad in to release kick plate, pull bottom out to remove

7) Remove separation pads

  a) Remove white retaining clip from rear side of main pad to remove

  b) With small flathead screwdriver, remove each outer pad and replace

8) Reinstall pickup roller

9) Reinstall kick plate

NOTE: After the left side of roller is in place be sure to lock the longest ends of the black arms (on the outside of the roller) into place in the metal frame above roller shaft
  a) Slide left side in place first, then install white bushing and ground spring on right side

  b) Rotate roller until kick plate is pushed all the way back

  c) Replace pickup clutch with tooth aligned adjacent to solenoid actuator

10) Reinstall pickup roller

Fusing Assembly Removal and Replacement

1. Remove rear cover

  a. Extend input extender assembly
  b. Remove three screws
  c. Separate the rear panel from the main cover, pulling the lower corners away from the printer first. Then, insert small flathead screwdriver into the openings at the top upper corners releasing two tabs, remove cover.

2. Remove EP door assembly
  a. Along the left door hinge there is a flex point, firmly press tab inward to release door.
3. Remove main cover

  a. Remove rear cover
  b. Remove EP door
  c. Remove memory cover
  d. Remove two screws from top of printer
  e. Grasp two lower front corners of printer and pull gently outward, lift cover straight up and off
4. Remove fuser

  a. Remove exit roller (unlock white bushings on either end)
  b. Remove right hand cartridge guide (depress one locking tab and slide forward)
  c. Remove two screws from delivery assembly (fuser cover) and remove
  d. Remove two screws from pressure plate, (metal) unlock two retaining tabs and remove />   e. From right side of printer, remove cable guide, and fuser cable from DC controller
  f. From left side of fuser, remove thermistor cable (white) and remove fuser
5. Re-assemble in reverse order

Resetting the Maintenance Count

1. Hold down check button while powering on the printer until all three control panel lights remain lit

2. Press the UP arrow until “NEW MAINTENANCE KIT” is displayed

3. Press the check button

4. Verify proper reset of maintenance count
  a. Select “PRINT CONFIGURATION” from the Information menu
  b. Check that the ‘Pages since last maintenance’ entry on the configuration page is set   to zero.
  c. If not, repeat steps 1 through 3
